23
rd July brings the glamour and excitement of cycle racing to Blackburn
Town Centre with its first Cycle Festival. Just after the most famous
cycle race in the world, the Tour de France, finishes in Paris, the
streets of the city centre will witness the thrills and possibly spills
of some of the top cycle racers in the country doing battle. They will
racing around an 800m circuit starting and finishing by King Georges
Hall and running by the Town Hall and along King William Walk.
The
Blackburn Cycle Festival will also allow members of the public to ride
around the closed-road circuit ahead of the racing. Beside the circuit
will be plenty of other cycle-related activities to keep you entertained
and involved. These include a Cycle Skills Challenge course (bikes and
helmets provided), Cycle Smoothie-Making (pedal your way to a healthy
fruity drink) and racing on a virtual-reality bike called a Computrainer.
There will also be some information displays.
The
whole evening will start at 6pm, with the support race at 7pm and the
main race starting at approx 7.45pm. The prize presentations take place
immediately afterwards at approx 9pm.
