Gearing up for 2009

Pennine Events Cycle Programme

Building on the successes of this year we have been busy finalising the programme for 2009, which we feel will be at least as exciting. Brief details are given below, with details of how to find out more or book your place.

Please note that others will be added to the programme either as details become finalised or when we can go public about them – we are currently working on a range of other exciting projects as well. Pedal it Pink – Sunday 19th April.

A new cycle event, organised by Breast Cancer Campaign, exclusively for women! Taking place in Liverpool’s Sefton Park Pedal it Pink has a variety of cycle routes to choose fromso there is something to suit all abilities.  Beginners can opt for the 5k Family Lap (which is also open to the men and children in your life) and those wishing to push themselves that little bit further can select either a half (13.1miles) or full (26.2miles) marathon distance.  All routes are completely enclosed in the park,so it’s safe, traffic-free and suitable for all existing and aspiring cyclists. Liverpool – Chester – Liverpool Bike Ride – Sunday 5th July.

Our longest running event, now in its 16th year. Join with over 2200 others in the only cycle event in the country to include nearly 5miles underground! Choice of 3 distances (20, 25 and 54 mile) through the Wirral and Cheshire countryside. Mini cycle show at the finish. Full ride participant support services, refreshments, free t-shirt. Online entries will be open on 10th January.
Colne Grand Prix - Wednesday 15th July.

Part of British Cycling’s National Elite Series. The top cyclists in the country battle it out around the closed roads of Colne Town Centre.

Cornwall Festival of Cycling – June & July.

Entertaining, enthusing and educating people of all ages about the possibilities and benefits of cycling through the unique combination of a cycle training and education programmes delivered in schools during the week and public road shows at weekends. The public roadshows will be in Penzance (28th June), Falmouth (4th July) and Truro (11th July). For more details see the festival website – www.cornwallfestivalofcycling.co.uk

Blackburn Town Centre Criterium – Wednesday 22nd July.

Another round of the National Elite Series that we organise. This one is over a very technical course around the heart of the town centre. There will also be a supporting entertainment programme, try-outs and fun ride.

Pendle Pedal, sponsored by Eric Wright Construction – Sunday 2nd August.

One of the most beautiful and traffic-free rides around. Its gentle name belies a very challenging Sportive ride around the beautiful Pendle, Ribble Valley, Lune Valley and Bowland countryside. It includes many of the climbs tackled by pro riders on the Tour of Britain, Kellogg's Tour and Tour of Lancashire races. The event will again also include the Pendle Cycle Show featuring try-outs, entertainers and displays. For photos, route maps and other details please click here. Tour of Pendle – Sunday 9th August.

The penultimate round of the Premier Calendar, British Cycling’s National Road Race Series. Held over a beautiful circuit around Pendle Hill with a finishing circuit around the town of Nelson.

Pedal for Scotland – Sunday 13th September.

The biggest cycle ride in the country with nearly 6,000 riders last time. A classic route across the Central Belt from Glasgow to Edinburgh. Entry details will be on the event website by the new year – www.pedalforscotland.org.

City of Preston Grand Prix – Sunday 20th September.

Our third race that is part of the the National Elite Series in 2009. Part of a full-on day of sport with the Run Preston races in the morning, Go Ride, Cycle-try-outs, a fun ride and then the cycle races from Youth categories up to the Elite stars on a 1km circuit around the heart of the city.
